Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 31, 2026
The short version: Rete runs entirely on your devices. Your conversations, documents, and AI interactions never leave your home network. The only data we collect is what's needed to process your purchase.
What Rete Is
Rete is a locally-running AI application. All AI processing, conversations, document analysis, and mesh computing happen on your own hardware within your local network. No data is sent to our servers or any third-party AI service during normal use of the application.
Data We Collect
We collect the minimum information necessary to sell you the software:
- Payment information — When you purchase Rete, your payment is processed by Stripe. We receive your email address and a record of the transaction. We do not receive or store your credit card number, CVV, or full billing details — Stripe handles that entirely.
- Email address — Used to send your license key and download links. We may also use it to send critical product updates (e.g., security patches). We will never send marketing emails.
- License key activation — When you activate your license key, the app verifies the key locally against the data stored on your machine. No activation data is sent to our servers.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- Your conversations with the AI
- Documents you upload
- Your usage patterns or analytics
- Device information or hardware specs
- Mesh network topology or connected devices
- IP addresses (beyond what's needed for purchases and remote mesh connections)
- Any telemetry, crash reports, or diagnostics
Local Data Storage
Rete stores all application data locally on your computer:
- Conversations — Stored as JSON files on your machine
- Documents — Stored in a local directory on your machine
- AI models — Downloaded to your machine and run locally
- Settings and preferences — Stored locally
- License key — Stored locally after activation
You can delete all of this data at any time by removing the Rete data directory from your computer.
Mesh Networking
Local mesh: When you use Rete's mesh computing feature on your home network, data is transmitted directly between your devices (e.g., between your Mac and your iPhone). This traffic stays entirely within your home network.
Remote mesh: When you connect devices across different networks using an invite code, our relay server temporarily stores the public IP addresses of both parties to broker the connection. This data is:
- Stored in memory only — never written to disk
- Invite codes and associated IPs are deleted after 10 minutes
- Connection records are deleted after 24 hours
- Only IP addresses are stored — no prompts, conversations, or AI data passes through the relay
When possible, devices connect directly to each other (peer-to-peer). The relay server is only used for the initial introduction and as a fallback if direct connection fails. Even when data routes through the relay, it is encrypted end-to-end and we cannot read its contents.
Third-Party Services
- Stripe — Processes payments. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Model downloads — When you download AI models during setup, the download is served from our hosting infrastructure. We log standard web server access information (IP address, timestamp, file requested) for operational purposes. These logs are retained for no more than 30 days.
Children's Privacy
Rete is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will notify customers via the email address associated with their purchase. Continued use of the software after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
